Wrapped up in Wrap Skirts

I have wanted to try a wrap skirt for some time, so when I had Sewing Green book checked out from the library, I discovered a wrap skirt pattern and tutorial inside... AWESOME! FREE!!!!! my favourite kind of pattern!

Here is my first attempt at following this pattern.

It's a little long for my short frame, and seems to flare out a little too much that low down my legs, i feel like a bell lol.


Accidentally, with a particular fabric in mind that would not allow for this length, or 7 cuts of the pattern piece, this skirt was formed out of my shortened and widened pattern piece (only requires 3 pieces per side rather then 7)

and another was made

can you tell I am loving all the options and variety
They are so quick and simple to make these skirts!!!



I reckon each skirt only cost me about $10 or so in fabrics! and I get up 2 skirts out of them!

SHOULD be set for summer.... but I may just make another 1 or 2......

Simple Scarf Tutorial

You will need

1 doily
1 singlet/top preferably without side seams

 

 

HOW TO

1) cut the bottom hem off.


 

2) place edge of doily on the side, and allow 1 and a half of the doily width along the side.

and cut straight across to top of the singlet.

 

3) cut up one side seam. and stretch the fabric as much as you can.

 

4) cut the doily in half and pin to each end of the scarf and sew in place. 

 



And you're DONE!
It's that SIMPLE!

Ladies shirt refashion Tutorial

It’s time to raid the op shops or your grandma’s house to create this gorgeous simple shirt… or you that you can buy doily’s online.

suit able for any style of shirt, tank top etc. check your wardrobe, op shops, or the stores have fairly cheap blank clothing.

You will need

1 shirt

1 doily

 

HOW TO

1) Find the centre position on the back of your top and pin doily in place.

 

2) Sew around the outside where it has the most crochet stitches.

3) Turn inside out, pinch up the shirt layer only and snip an opening.

 

4) I use my applique duckbill scissors for this next part (shown below), and trim as close to the stitches as I can.



 

And you're DONE!

It's that SIMPLE!

Cardi Refashion

Oppsy, the zipper broke during a cycle in the washing machine.

Not to worry. A cute Crochet lace trim and its now covered the broken zipper and makes a cute open cardi.

Winter AND summer skirt!

When I saw this piece of fabric in the remnant bin at Spotlight, I knew it would be fantastic for a skirt!
So at $2 a metre I grabbed the piece that was there (and wouldn't have been much more then a metre, however I can't remember exactly now)

I wasn't sure WHAT type of skirt I wanted to make out of it.

But as soon as I found this tutorial on Sweet Verbana, I KNEW it was perfect, and got to work the next day!
(only difference with mine is I wouldn't just fold and sew, I had to cut and make sure both piece has the right side facing out as my fabric had a very clear front and back)

I think it is perfect over tights with boots for winter, and I am sure I will wear it in summer as it is a lovely weight fabric.


I am now on the look out for some more fabric to make this style skirt from.

Hankerchief Infinity Dress

This isn’t the first infinity dress I have made, and I am sure it won’t be the last either.

It is such an easy dress to make, and so versatile with how you can wear it, and even more so when it is so easy for you have one in every colour!!!

I had visioned this dress after an episode of Winners and Losers, I knew I wanted a dress similar to Sophie’s (second from left in case you don’t watch the show ;)), with a colourful print as the skirt part, with a handkerchief hemline, and a black top/strap area.

I was even more thrilled when I found the floral print fabric for $2 a metre at Spotlight.
The black stretch fabric was found in the remnant bin for something ridiculous like 60c!
The most expensive part of this dress was the lining, which was $7 a metre.

In total this dress cost me less than $10, and no more than an hour or so to make!

The flower, made from left over scraps cut from the waist circle hole, has both a safety pin attached so it can be worn as a brooch on the dress, or cardi when needed, and also a bobby pin, so it can be worn in my hair, depending on my mood.
